Our efforts to champion the empowerment of women have been highlighted by United Nations Women, which has chosen to share our story at the 79th United Nations General Assembly in New York.
The UN Womens Empowerment Principles (WEPs) launched a collection of case studies during as part of 79th UN General Assembly in New York this morning, titled Emerging Practices: Advancing Gender Equality in the Watch & Jewellery Industry.
The document “highlights the transformative power that companies can have in accelerating gender equality and women’s empowerment in the workplace,” according to UN Women global head of WEPs Anna Fälth. Dimexon, which has been a signatory of the WEPs since 2022, has been selected as an example of best practice within the report.
This follows on from our inclusion in WEPs 2023 report Advancing Gender Equality through Gender Responsive Procurement in the Watch and Jewelry Industry and the Watch & Jewellery Initiative 2030 (WJI 2030)’s 2024 Nature Roadmap.
Dimexon director Rajiv Mehta and GM of sustainability and strategic brands Morgane Winterholer were invited to attend the General Assembly in New York to witness the launch of the report. The launch took place during an event hosted by the Belgian Permanent Mission to the United Nations, and the WJI 2030 in collaboration with UN Women and the UN Global Compact.
The Emerging Practices: Advancing Gender Equality in the Watch & Jewellery Industry report is structured by the seven principles of the WEPs, with case studies for each principle to demonstrate how companies in the watch and jewellery sector are enacting change. Dimexon was chosen to represent Principle 2: Treat all women and men fairly at work – respect and support human rights and nondiscrimination.
Other companies featured in the report include Chanel, Cartier, Gucci, Monica Vinader, Pomellato, International Gemological Institute (IGI), Rosy Blue, Mejuri, Danat, Taché, BDL5, Italpreziosi, and Julie Sandlou Vietnam.
The title of our case study is Start With Women, Build a Business, and speaks to our company’s women-first vision. “We owe our success to some brilliant women,” our director Rajiv Mehta is quoted as saying in the case study. “Being part of the WEPs will enable us to continue sharing our passion and ethos on women’s empowerment with a like-minded community.”
To celebrate our inclusion in Emerging Practices: Advancing Gender Equality in the Watch & Jewellery Industry, we have made a short video to explain why we signed the WEPs, and what we hope being a signatory will help us to achieve in the future.
