CUT

The most important quality characteristic of a round brilliant diamond is the cut, which impacts the brilliance, fire and scintillation of the diamond. If the cut of a diamond is poor, the diamond will look dull and lifeless. When diamonds are certified by a gemological laboratory, they get a rating for their cut that ranges from Fair to Excellent. Melee diamonds are not certified by a lab due to their small size, but Dimexon’s own graders ensure that the cut of each stone is in line with the GIA’s highest standards to ensure a brilliant sparkle.

COLOUR

Another important quality characteristic of diamonds is the colour. The colour grade ranges from top-quality colourless D diamonds through the alphabet to yellowish Z diamonds. Dimexon’s assortments of melee diamonds are always guaranteed to be G+ in colour. We invite you to take a look at our pack shots of Stars-2, Stars and Full Cuts, so you can assess our standard colour assortment for yourself.

CLARITY

When we talk about clarity, this refers to any imperfections or inclusions in the stone. The grading scale ranges from FL or IF (internally flawless) to I3 (heavily included). Dimexon offers four clarity assortments in our online inventory: Clean, VS (very small inclusions), SI (small inclusions) and Top Piqué or SI3 goods (visible inclusions under a microscope). As a reference, we’ve organised some macro footage to showcase the clarities you can expect in all four assortments. As our assortments are well-known for their consistency, you can expect only slight variations to the examples showcased in the video footage.

CARAT

A carat is a measurement used to describe the weight of a diamond, or its calibration. The consistency of a diamond’s calibration, as well as its cut, can have a big impact on the average weight per size: a diamond with a poor cut might look smaller than a diamond with a smaller carat weight but better cut. Therefore, calibration becomes an important factor in comparing prices. As a professional, you are working to minute tolerances to make your designs perfect, which is why tight and correct diamond calibration is so important. This is why we focus on delivering perfectly calibrated stones consistently.

This size chart will give you an idea of how many stones there are approximately per carat in each of our calibrated sizes. Please factor for small potential variances.

We are using I. David sifts for our melee calibration. Please bear in mind that small variations are possible between different siftsets.

Not yet. Melee diamonds are too small to be certified, but we do guarantee that all our diamonds are fully traceable, regardless of size. Please subscribe here and we’ll inform you once we change/expand our online offering.

Origin & Supply Chain

The Kimberley Process Certification Scheme is the process established in 2003 to prevent "conflict diamonds" from entering the mainstream rough diamond market by United Nations General Assembly Resolution 55/56 following recommendations in the Fowler Report.

The SOW enables manufacturers to pass on the guarantees that they received by sourcing Kimberley Process Certified rough goods. After manufacturing, our invoices will state:

“The diamonds herein invoiced have been purchased or sourced from legitimate sources not involved in funding conflict, and in compliance with United Nations Resolutions and corresponding national laws. We, the seller, hereby guarantee that these diamonds are conflict-free and confirm adherence to the World Diamond Council System of Warranties Guidelines.

Dimexon predominantly sources its rough diamonds from De Beers and Rio Tinto. We have been a De Beers Sightholder and a long term partner of Rio Tinto under the Select Diamantaire program for many years. Apart from these prime sources, we also buy rough from smaller mining groups through tenders.

Our diamonds are polished in Coimbatore, southeast India, where Dimexon was founded by Pankaj Kaushik Mehta in the 1960s. Our state-of-the-art production facilities are located at our spacious green campus and it has received appraisals by numerous independent auditors in the past.

We were one of the first suppliers to fully address Diamond Integrity Assurance by introducing 100% screening of all melee diamonds leaving our office. We’ve also assessed possible contamination points and installed systems and processes to guarantee 100% natural diamonds.

The screening process for stones between 1mm and 3.8mm takes place in-house and is executed using either De Beers-developed AMSII or HRD-developed M-Screen 4.0 technology. All stones smaller or bigger are screened at independent laboratories such as IIDGR (Forevermark) or IGI (International Gemological Institute).

All stones that are “referred” by the in-house machines as being suspected of not being of natural origin are sent to independent laboratories for further testing.

After polishing, all our diamonds are assorted by our own team of professionals at Diamoda, our assorting department in Mumbai, India. At the facility, we use Sortoscope technology to guarantee the highest levels of consistency in the industry.
