A staff retention record like ours is worth celebrating

From a mass ceremony to mark 90 employees’ 20th anniversaries in Coimbatore, to a special cake for a single employee reaching 30 years of service in Dubai, we always like to honour the dedication of our people.

At Dimexon, it is hard to go very long without a celebration of some kind. While we enjoy marking holidays and global events – such as International Women’s Day – another source of celebration is staff anniversaries.

Within our company, we have an incredibly high staff retention rate. We like to think that this is down to our people-centric approach to creating a supportive and inspiring workplace. More than 70% of our staff have been with us for more than 10 years, and 35% have built careers with us that span more than two decades.

Ensuring that women, who wish to, can return to work after childbirth has been a key focus for us. By working closely with the mothers on our team, we have created a corporate culture that supports them, including operating an on-site crèche that can be used by our employees, and implementing a Working Hour Policy that allows our employees to take additional time away from the business during the day to tend to occasional family duties.

This has resulted in a 96% return-to-work rate for women taking maternity leave at Dimexon.

Another reason staff stay so long is that we actively offer opportunities for growth, through comprehensive technical training, supporting them through further education, and creating pathways for internal career progression. A shining example of someone who has chosen to stay and grow with us is Revathi CV, our assistant manager in Coimbatore. She joined us as a diamond polisher more than 35 years ago and worked her way through the ranks to her current position, in which she is responsible for managing 1,500 people.

Even though we have a high number of employees celebrating long tenures with us, we always like to mark the occasion. In June, our founder and chairman Pankaj Mehta hosted a mass celebration at our manufacturing site in Coimbatore, during which he individually awarded 90 members of staff for having completed 20 years of service with Dimexon.

In the same month in Mumbai, the team bid farewell to Kokila Desai, who retired after 38 years with Dimexon. Kokila joined the accounts department in 1986 and spent her entire career with us, transitioning from keeping track of our finances with pencil and paper to spearheading the use of SAP-powered technologies.

Another retirement was marked in our Antwerp office this summer, as Christopher Bull, head of Dimexon's European division, stepped down from his role. Christopher had spent 15 years working with Dimexon, and is a well-known figure in the diamond industry with a career that spanned four decades.

The celebrations continued in our Dubai office, where staff threw a party for Aliraza Patel to mark his 30thanniversary with the company. Aliraza works in our finance department, and is a pivotal member of the team.

The reason people stay so long at Dimexon? Our director Rajiv Mehta believes it is down the culture.

“Our people at Dimexon form a long-standing relationship with the company because of our corporate culture, which fosters a deep sense of belonging, purpose and wellbeing,” says Rajiv. “Dimexon is a place where people feel respected, valued, supported and empowered to excel, which speaks volumes about the company’s commitment to its employees' wellbeing and success.”
